Lance gets first taste of new-look Yas Marina Circuit

Lance ended Friday practice for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 15th as Formula One prepares for the final race of the 2021 season at the Yas Marina Circuit.

Lance was quick to join the track for the first practice session of the weekend and opted to run the Soft compound Pirelli tyres for his first laps of the circuit’s new configuration.

On his first run, the Canadian put in a 1:28.783 lap time to place sixth before the rest of the grid began delivering their flying laps.

‍

Running solely on the Soft tyres through the session, Lance completed 26 laps and with a personal best 1:26.608 run, ended FP1 in 15th.

‍

As the sunset and conditions became more representative of race day, Lance started FP2 on a set of Medium tyres as the team focused on collecting long-run data.

‍

Lance put in a 1:26.492 lap on the Medium tyres before switching to the Soft tyres at the mid-point of the session.

‍

Lance dedicated the second half of the session to focusing on one-lap pace to put in his best lap time of 1:25.385 and end the day in 15th.

It was good to experience the new Yas Marina Circuit layout today. It is definitely faster and has more flow to it, which makes it cool and fun to drive. We were able to complete our programme today and put in some good laps. We have learned a lot across the two sessions, so now it is about reviewing the data and trying to extract some more performance ahead of qualifying tomorrow.

FP3 for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will get underway at 10:00 GMT on Saturday, December 11.
