Sitting out FP1, Lance enabled Aston Martin Aramco Formula One® Team Test & Reserve Driver Felipe Drugovich to take the reins of his AMR24.
The team tried different things on Lance’s AMR24 during FP2 to find the right setup for the remainder of the weekend.
Lance gathered data on both the Soft and Medium compound tyres and finished the session in P18.
The conditions were hot and dry in the final practice session, not representative of the conditions in qualifying and the race.
Lance finished in P18.
In the final qualifying session of the year, and with much cooler temperatures compared to earlier in the day, Lance safely navigated Q1 and progressed into Q2 in P12.
After opting to run three sets of Softs in Q1, Lance only had a used set available to him in Q2.
As others around him were on new tyres, he was unable to press into the final segment of qualifying. He was classified as P13.
Lance started the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on the Medium compound. He made a good start during a chaotic first lap which saw several incidents and a Virtual Safety Car.
To help with race pace and tyre wear, Lance and the team opted for a two-stop strategy. His first stop came on Lap 11, where he swapped to the Hard compound. He rejoined the race in P16.
Lance was able to make a number of overtakes on track. By Lap 30, he was up in P10. His second pit stop came on Lap 33 and he came back out in P14 on another set of Hard compound tyres.
He fought hard for the remainder of the race but unfortunately finished outside of the points in P14.
Lance Stroll, Aston Martin Aramco F1® driver, said:
"I had a good start to the race and made up four positions on the opening lap, but the car didn't have the performance to fight for much more today.
"After the pit stops, we just didn't have the pace to climb all the way back through the traffic into the points, but we made a few positions back passing [Jack] Doohan and [Yuki] Tsunoda.
"This wasn't the season we were hoping for, but we will be pushing hard to come back stronger next season. Thanks to the team for all their hard work over a challenging year."
