Lance immediately took to the track on a set of Medium Pirelli tyres in FP1 as he began to explore the recent track changes at the Albert Park circuit, soon setting his benchmark time of 1.24.428.
The Canadian continued to improve, placing sixth on the timesheets before a red flag halted the session briefly with 39 minutes on the clock.
When track action resumed, Lance returned to the track on a set of Soft tyres to put in his best time of 1.21.869, taking him eighth.
A second red flag for his Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One™ Team team-mate Sebastian Vettel prevented Lance from improving further and he ended the session in 16th.
As track temperatures cooled, Lance began FP2 on the Medium tyres to set his initial best lap of 1.23.121 to go fourth.
Ending his Medium stint in 10th, Lance switched to Soft tyres as he set about improving on his previous best time.
Lance amassed 28 laps during the practice session, setting his fastest lap in 1.20.611 to end the day in 14th.

“I think we have a made a good start to our weekend and the car is in a decent starting place, although we always want to find and extract more pace from it. We will work hard tonight to see if we can find more gains. It has been really fun to take on the challenge of a revised Albert Park Circuit. It is much faster and more exciting, and the four DRS zones should help cars get closer and improve overtaking, so let us see what the rest of the weekend has in store for us.”
FP3 for the Australian Grand Prix will get underway at 4am BST on Saturday, April 9.
