It was a hot and humid weekend at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. As these conditions make it one of the most challenging races on the calendar, dry ice was on standby throughout the weekend.
During the weekend’s Free Practice sessions, Lance worked on getting reacquainted with Marina Bay Street Circuit across all dry tyre compounds. In Free Practice One, he gathered data on the Hard and Soft tyres before later testing the Mediums in FP2.
In the weekend’s final Free Practice, Lance was straight out on the Medium tyres. However, a Red Flag due to a lizard on track put a pause to Lance’s running.
Once the session resumed, Lance was back out on Mediums before switching to Softs for his final stint.
It was a difficult Qualifying for Lance. He set an initial time on the Soft tyre compound, but the track evolved as the session went on. Towards the end of Q1, the track was really ramping up.
Lance missed out on Q2, qualifying P17 at the street circuit.
Before lights out, the team’s mechanics worked hard on a precautionary brake change for Lance.
Lance began the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix from P17 on Hard tyres.
He made his sole pitstop at the end of Lap 26. Pitting from P16, he returned to the track on Mediums in P19.
Lance was able to make up places throughout the remainder of the race. While a Safety Car may have benefitted him and assisted with securing a stronger result, this was the first Singapore Grand Prix in history without a Safety Car being deployed.
Passing Daniel Ricciardo in the later stages of the race, Lance climbed into P15.
Lance finished the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix in P14.
His season will continue on 18-20 October with the United States Grand Prix.
Lance Stroll, Aston Martin Aramco F1® driver, said:
It's been a very difficult weekend here in Singapore. On my laps to the grid I felt some strange vibrations, so the team worked quickly to replace a set of brakes as a precaution. It was a huge effort from the mechanics out there, so a big thanks to them for getting that sorted so quickly in this heat.
We knew it was going to be a tough race and we suffered from similar issues to yesterday: grip and balance. Austin is a very different circuit, so we'll hope that it is better suited to our car.
