Back at the high altitudes of Mexico City, a return to the traditional race weekend structure allowed Lance and the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team to gather data ahead of the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix.
Free Practice One was disrupted by two red flags, which paused Lance’s run plans temporarily. However, he was able to gather data on the Hard and Soft compound tyres. The laps run in FP1 were important as the second Free Practice session was a controlled test for the 2025 Pirelli tyres, with run plans set out by Pirelli’s engineers.
The weekend’s final Free Practice saw Lance focus on completing runs on the Soft compound tyre. After completing a total of 77 practice laps, Lance finished FP3 in P17.
Lance set an initial time on the Soft tyre compound, but with the track evolving as the session went on, Q1 was incredibly tight. Lance progressed into Q2 in P15.
He came back on track in Q2 on the Soft compound, and while on his final run of the session the red flag was flown with 10 seconds on the clock and would not resume. Lance was unable to finish his lap and qualified in P14.
Lance began the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix on Medium tyres. He made a great start and had moved up three positions to P11 in the first few corners. A safety car was deployed at the end of the first lap and neutralised the race.
After dropping to P12, Lance engaged in a battle with Sergio Pérez on Lap 19 but went off the track and had to rejoin behind the Red Bull.
He made his sole pitstop at the end of Lap 26 and returned to the track on the Hard compound in P16.
Lance made good progress through the field in the remaining laps of the Grand Prix, climbing into P11. He crossed the line in the same position, narrowly missing out on the points positions.
His season will continue on 1-3 November with the 2024 São Paulo Grand Prix.
Lance Stroll, Aston Martin Aramco F1® driver, said:
"It was a hard-fought race today. We did everything we could while managing some cooling issues, but we are still just lacking the pace to fight for points. It's been a tough couple of weeks, but hopefully in Brazil we can be a little more competitive.”
