Challenges along the corniche

Lance placed P16 at the tough track of Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team driver, Lance Stroll, finished P16 in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, where he'd retired in 2024.

Getting the weekend started

Lance and the team began the weekend’s first Free Practice by running the Medium tyre.

With just under half of the session to go, Lance switched to Softs.

After gathering information across 23 laps, Lance finished the session in P17.

Further Medium and Soft running

Lance used the Medium and Soft tyres throughout FP2, setting 18 laps.

With eight minutes to go, a Red Flag put a pause to running.

When the session restarted, only one minute remained, but it was enough to give Lance the chance to do a practice start.

Set-up changes ahead of final Free Practice

After analysing the data overnight, the team made some setup changes to the car to extract more pace.

Beginning the weekend’s final Free Practice with one lap on the Hard tyre, Lance switched to Softs and completed the rest of the session on that compound.

Qualifying under the lights

Despite the setup changes made, the car was unfortunately still lacking in pace. Only 0.074 seconds away from Q2, Lance concluded Qualifying in P16.

An unfortunate day in Jeddah

Lance began the race on the Hard compound from P16. A first-lap incident for other drivers resulted in a Safety Car and took Lance up to P14.

Due to the extreme heat, several drivers reported issues with keeping the car at the right temperature.

By Lap 39, Lance was up to P12 and was still yet to make his pitstop. As a result, the team opted to switch Lance's position with team-mate Fernando Alonso who was running behind in P13, having already made his mandatory pitstop.

Despite many drivers opting to pit earlier, Lance held onto his Hard tyres for 40 laps in hopes of taking advantage of a Safety Car period. Unfortunately, this strategy didn't work out for the team, and Lance took his pitstop at the end of lap 40, making him the final driver to pit in the race.

On fresh Mediums, Lance rejoined the track in P17 and managed to make up a place to P16 before the chequered flag fell.

Lance's season continues in Miami on 2-4 May.

Lance Stroll, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team, said:

"We went long on the first stint, hoping for a Safety Car window – unfortunately that didn't work out for us. Our strategy was the only chance for us to hope for an opportunity and make up positions as we didn't have anything to lose starting from P16.
"We're far from where we want to be and just got to keep pushing to find more performance, we want to be a lot more competitive, and the season is still young."
