Ahead of the weekend, Autódromo José Carlos Pace was resurfaced. Lance and the team worked on familiarising themselves with the track in the weekend’s only practice session.
Lance tested all three tyre compounds across Free Practice. After doing a lap on Hards, Lance pitted for Mediums which he ran for the majority of FP1. He then switched to Softs for his final stint.
In SQ1, Lance immediately came out to set his first lap. With three minutes to go, he was back on track for another lap.
Setting a time of 1:11.783, Lance unfortunately missed out on SQ2 and qualified P19.
After the team opted to make some set-up changes to Lance’s car ahead of the Sprint, Lance started from the pit lane.
Using Medium tyres, Lance was running in P19 on the opening lap.
Lance had some battles out on track with Zhou Guanyu and team-mate Fernando Alonso, including on overtake on Alonso on Lap 9.
Ultimately, Lance finished the Sprint in P19.
As a result of unsafe weather conditions, Qualifying was postponed to Sunday at 07:30 local time.
Lance was straight out in Q1 to set a lap time as soon as possible. When a red flag came out midway through the segment, Lance was safely in P6. After the session resumed, he made it through to Q2.
In the second Qualifying segment, another red flag put a pause to the session. Lance returned to the track with under six minutes to go.
While Lance was able to get through to Q3, he went off at the end of Q2 which led to a red flag and the end of his running, qualifying P10.
On the Formation Lap in the tricky weather conditions, Lance suffered a lock up which resulted in him being stuck in the gravel.
His season will continue on 21-23 November with the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Lance Stroll, Aston Martin Aramco F1® driver, said:
"It was a really strange one. It felt like a brake failure because as soon as I touched the brakes it locked the rear axle and I was a passenger. I was stuck in the gravel and my race was done. It is such a shame because in a wet race like today anything can be possible, but we were not able to take those opportunities.”
