Positive Practice for Lance in Spa

Lance Stroll made a strong start to the weekend as he ended Friday practice in fourth place at Spa.

Lance Stroll made a strong start to the weekend as he ended Friday practice in fourth place at Spa.

After an early downpour on Friday, Lance began FP1 on a set of Intermediate tyres to test the circuit.

After completing only an installation lap, the track was deemed dry enough for slicks and Lance returned to the pits to switch onto the Hard Pirelli tyres.

The Canadian put in seven laps on the Hard tyres, setting his best lap time of a 1.50.277 before donning the Softs for the remainder of the session.

Setting a 1.47.437, Lance moved into fifth in the timings before an on-track stoppage for Kevin Magnussen brought out a late red flag.

With the rain setting in as the session resumed, there were no further improvements and Lance ended FP1 in fifth position.

As the rain subsided before FP2, Lance took to the track on the Mediums for the first time this weekend before changing onto the Softs.

Putting in a 1.46.635, his best lap time of the day, Lance moved into fourth in the timings before the rain returned, ending any chance of improving.

“It felt good out there today and the lap-times looked good as well. We tried all the tyre compounds, and the performance felt decent across all three. We do not know what the weather will bring tomorrow, so it is really tricky to figure out where we will be when qualifying comes around, but I am hopeful we will be in the mix for some good points this weekend.”
