Lance Stroll ended Qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix in 14th in a strong position.

Lance Stroll ended Qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix in 14th in a strong position.

With rain falling across the circuit ahead of FP3, it was declared a wet session as the drivers took to the track.

Lance headed out on the Wet Pirelli tyres to set a benchmark time of 1.47.487 before improving to his best wet time of 1.45.789.

Switching onto the Intermediate tyres, Lance completed nine laps to put in a best time of the session of 1.45.638 and ended FP3 in 15th position.

As the track rapidly dried out ahead of Qualifying, Lance took to the track on the Soft tyres to set his first flying lap and take himself to the top of the timings in the early stages of the session.

As the rest of the field delivered their first runs, Lance was pushed down into the elimination zone.

Switching to a fresh set of Soft tyres, Lance returned to the track to deliver his best lap time of 1.19.205 and secured his place in Q2 in 15th.

In Q2, Lance put in a 1.19.161 on his first run to place into eighth place before returning to the pits.

In the final stages of the session, Lance set his best time of 1.19.137 but was unable to advance any further, ending qualifying in 14th position.

Lance Stroll – Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One™ Team driver:

“To qualify 14th was not what we really wanted today. Yesterday we looked more competitive, but the conditions were very different today and we just generally struggled for grip. We will have to look at the data to analyse why things panned out the way they did today. We have been performing better on race day, but it is tricky to overtake here – so it will be tough to make progress in the race, but there might be some interesting weather tomorrow which can go in our favour.”
