Limited track time on Friday in Abu Dhabi for Lance

Sitting out Free Practice One, Lance only had an hour of running in Friday’s sessions at the Yas Marina circuit.

With Aston Martin fulfilling their team obligation to allow a rookie to drive a practice session in place of each regular driver, the team’s reserve driver Felipe Drugovich filled in for Lance in FP1.

Lance returned to his AMR22 for Free Practice 2, which was amore representative session for qualifying and the race.

He started his stint on the Medium compounds, driving a full eight laps and putting in a lap time of 1:28.137, before heading into the pits.

He returned just over the halfway mark on Soft tyres, immediately improving on his time, and setting his best lap of 1:26.547, which promoted him to 14th.

After six laps, he headed back to the garage but then returned to the track on his set of Soft tyres, adding a further 10 laps on the set, but he was unable to improve on his time.

He ended the practice session in 14th after switching to the Medium tyres from earlier right at the end of the session.

“We completed some good laps in FP2 this evening after making way for Felipe earlier in the day. He did a really good job in FP1. We have some ideas that we want to think about overnight based on the data we have gathered today. It looks like it will be tight against our competitors again here, just as it has been all season. To beat them, we will need to maximise everything we can across the rest of the weekend.”
